To unlock the World Tree, capture Panthalus through the Echoing Flute quest, put Panthalus in your active party, then use the terminal beside the sealed entrance. The Tree is a separate level 70-80 endgame map, not a decorative extension of the main island.
Before approaching rare resources, consume World Tree Holy Water or bring a Pal with one of the 7 World Tree passives so the nodes do not vanish. Dimensional Leap is the travel-focused option: the installed passive gives Movement Speed +50%, Hunger drain +15% and the same resource protection.
What is actually inside
Start with the exact task you need
Open the World Tree gate
The main story points you here after Sunreach, but the Panthalus collection quest itself can be prepared earlier.
| Step | What to do | What matters |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Find the researcher | Visit the Ancient Civilization Researcher on the Deserted Islet, north of the Twilight Dunes. | Speaking twice on a first visit gives you the Faded Schematic. |
| 2. Collect four Echobones | Recover the Marine, Silent, Seafoam and Tidewind Echobones from the four whale skeletons. | They can be collected before accepting the quest. |
| 3. Craft the Echoing Flute | Use the Faded Schematic and all four Echobones at any workbench. | Return to the researcher before starting the encounter. |
| 4. Capture Panthalus | Use the nearby stone to begin the 10-minute fight and finish the guaranteed quest capture. | Defeating it is not the objective; Panthalus must join your roster. |
| 5. Put Panthalus in your party | Travel to the World Tree entrance with Panthalus in an active party slot. | A Palbox copy does not satisfy the gate terminal. |
| 6. Use the terminal | Interact with the terminal beside the sealed World Tree entrance. | This removes the barrier and opens the Tree map. |
Your first World Tree circuit
Spend the first visit making later farming runs shorter and safer.
| Priority | Route decision | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Travel anchors | Unlock the nearest fast-travel point, then work outward through the map's 15 anchors. | The Tree is a separate, layered map; early anchors prevent long repeat crossings. |
| 2. Holy Water | Collect World Tree Holy Water before approaching rare deposits, or field a Pal with a World Tree passive. | Either protection prevents World Tree resources from vanishing as you approach. |
| 3. Paloxite | Bring the level 54 Plasma Multicutter and mark clusters among the 80 mapped nodes. | Its installed description explicitly supports special ores. |
| 4. Recovery | Mark the three Healing Springs and use them as circuit checkpoints. | They restore your party during longer endgame sweeps. |
| 5. Hazard gear | Build the level 76 Corrosive Mist Mask before committing to corrosive zones. | The mask negates corrosive-mist damage; safer outer routes can fund the first one. |
Paloxite: protect, mine, then refine
World Tree Holy Water is both protection and currency. Consuming it prevents World Tree resources from vanishing for a period of time. A Pal carrying any of the 7 World Tree passives provides the same anti-vanishing trait without spending a consumable, which is the better long-run farming setup. Save the finite water for recipes once you have a suitable Pal.
At technology level 74, one Paloxite Ingot costs exactly 1 Soralite, 2 Paloxite and 1 World Tree Holy Water. This is deliberately a two-region recipe: Soralite comes from Sunreach, while Paloxite and Holy Water come from the Tree. Fund one weapon or armor path and its ammunition before trying to craft every Ancient-tier unlock.
What to reserve World Tree materials for
| Material | Verified use | Planning advice |
|---|---|---|
| World Tree Holy Water | Anti-vanishing protection; 1 per Paloxite Ingot; 10 per Awakening Crystal. | Use a World Tree passive for routine mining so the consumable survives for crafting. |
| Paloxite | 2 per Paloxite Ingot; 30 for the Corrosive Mist Mask. | Craft the mask before farming the hazardous inner routes. |
| Soralite | 1 per Paloxite Ingot. | Carry Sunreach ore into the Tree loop instead of discovering the cross-region dependency at the furnace. |
| Radiant Gems | 50 matching gems per affinity-specific Awakening Crystal. | Farm the element that matches the Pal you have already chosen to awaken. |
| Ancient Relics | Five current quality tiers feed the Ancient Relic Recycler. | Recycle after a sweep; do not treat the relic itself as a direct crafting ingredient. |
World Tree passive skills are farming tools first
Build 24088745 contains 7 World Tree passives. Their large buffs and real drawbacks make them build-defining, but every one also carries the shared resource trait: World Tree resources will not vanish when the Pal approaches. That shared line is immediately useful even before you optimize a combat or worker build.
Twin-Edged Holy Blade is a glass-cannon choice, Demon's Hand is a specialized worker trait, and Dimensional Leap is a travel trait with a hunger cost. Evaluate the tradeoff for the Pal's job, then keep at least one carrier available for Paloxite and Mythical Wood routes.
The World Tree passive skills
Names and effects generated from the installed 1.0 passive table. Every row also carries the anti-vanishing resource trait.
| Passive skill | Buff and tradeoff |
|---|---|
| Twin-Edged Holy Blade | Attack +50%, Defense -30% |
| God of Destruction | Attack +40%, Defense +20%, Max Health -50% |
| Demon’s Hand | Work Speed +90%, SAN drains 15% faster |
| Sanctified Meat Shield | Defense +50%, Attack -30% |
| World Tree Seedbed | Hunger drains 50% slower, Max Health -20% |
| Dimensional Leap | Movement Speed +50%, Hunger drains 15% faster |
| Hermit Sage | SAN drains 50% slower, Work Speed -20% |
34 World Tree-only wild habitats
The full Tree roster contains 97 wild species. These are the 34 whose current spawn summaries have no normal wild habitat on another map. This does not mean every Pal is unobtainable elsewhere: bosses, breeding, eggs and other special acquisition methods are separate from normal wild spawns.
