Awakening is a one-time endgame upgrade for a Pal you intend to keep. Pick a compatible element-matched Awakening Crystal, craft it from World Tree materials, and use it on the target Pal. It is a finishing decision, not another rank track, so settle the species, passives and talents you care about before spending the crystal.
Build 24088745 contains 9 legal Awakening Crystal recipes, one for each current affinity. Every recipe uses 50 matching Radiant Gems and 10 World Tree Holy Water, with a work amount of 30,000.

A low-regret Awakening workflow
First, choose the keeper. Awakening is most useful after you have settled on a Pal you expect to keep using, rather than on a temporary capture that will soon be replaced by a cleaner passive or talent roll.
Second, identify the compatible crystal in the Awakening Hub. The current crystal descriptions explicitly restrict each item to its matching affinity. Farm that Radiant Gem type from World Tree Pals and gather World Tree Holy Water at the same time.
Third, craft the crystal and use it from the inventory on the compatible Pal. The recipe bill is exact: 50 matching gems, 10 Holy Water and 30,000 work for one crystal. Afterward, open the status screen and read the separate Awakening contribution rather than estimating from the raw native scalar.

Keep Awakening separate from Souls and condensation
Soul enhancement remains its own 20-rank track. The installed native values add 3% per rank to the selected enhanced stat, reaching 60% at rank 20. Condensation remains the Partner Skill and rank layer. Awakening is a separate one-time state, so the useful planning question is which layer is currently limiting the Pal, not which percentage looks largest on paper.
Awakening can also interact with species-specific Partner Skill behavior. Current players have documented unusually large effects on particular Pals such as Sekhmet, but that is not evidence for a universal Partner Skill multiplier. Treat species-specific results as a separate check before spending a crystal for base work rather than combat stats.
How an Awakened Pal is marked
Gold aura, portrait treatment and wild finds
Awakened Pals use a persistent gold aura and special party or portrait treatment. The graphics setting can hide the aura without undoing the upgrade. Lucky Pals are a different system, although current players have repeatedly documented rare wild Lucky Pals that also spawn Awakened and keep the Awakening treatment after capture.
When the visuals are ambiguous, use the status screen. It labels the Awakening contribution separately from Soul bonuses, which makes it the best final check for both a crafted Awakening and an unusual wild capture.
